June 12—Left at 5 A.M., marched over part of the Blue Ridge, and crossed the head of the Rappahannock River—eighteen miles to-day. We marched through Front Royal, where the ladies treated us very good. Camped one mile north side of town, and waded the Shaninoar, both prongs.
